Hi Rahimeakyuz,
You can try looking in your HP computer's manual(s) for the information about which batteries go with you computer. You didn't say anything at all about what kind of notebook you have - batteries and chargers do vary by age of the (computer) equipment and the type of notebook.
The manual you seek might be named 'Service and Maintenance' (or similar).
There are usually a number of chargers that can be used with any notebook - it depends on the size of the battery you are trying to charge.
Assuming support for the following batteries:
● 9-cell, 3.00-Ah (100-Wh) Li-ion battery
● 6-cell, 2.80-Ah (62-Wh) Li-ion battery
● 6-cell, 2.55-Ah (55-Wh) Li-ion battery
One would not want to charge the 9-cell battery with the smaller 62 watt travel charger. (Indeed, it may not be possible to fully charge the battery with such a mismatch.)
Newer notebooks require 90-130 watts of charge power. The bigger, newer batteries simply won't charge on an old, puny charger.
From
'If you needed to purchase a replacement AC power supply, be sure you use the notebook model number and check for the correct AC adapter part number at the HP Parts Store . You will also need to have the model number if you speak with HP Customer Service.'
You can use your notebook model number and look for the appropriate charger at the Parts Store. Your charger is probably listed so you can tell which one is the correct charger.
If you and your friend have the same type of charger, worry not. They don't differ physically by serial number and they do not usually fail. They are not that expensive to replace, either.
If you didn't think of it and you have your detailed paper work, the serial number may be on the receipt....
I hope this helps.
